December 26, 2024At Sooners Delivery, we believe in the joy of sharing delicious traditions with your loved ones. This holiday season, we’re bringing you a classic Colombian dessert: Natilla. Simple to make and full of festive flavors, it’s the perfect treat to brighten your Christmas celebrations.
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of whole milk
- 1 cup of panela (or brown sugar), grated
- 1 cup of cornstarch
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 cup of shredded coconut (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves (optional)
- A pinch of salt
- Butter for greasing
Instructions:
- Prepare the Mixture: In a large pot, combine the milk, grated panela, cinnamon stick, and a pinch of salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the panela dissolves completely.
- Thicken the Mixture: In a separate bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in 1 cup of milk. Gradually add this mixture to the pot, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Cook the Natilla: Continue cooking on low heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and begins to pull away from the sides of the pot. This should take about 15-20 minutes.
- Add Flavor (Optional): For extra festive flavor, mix in shredded coconut or ground cloves during the final stages of cooking.
- Set the Natilla: Grease a dish or mold with butter and pour in the hot Natilla mixture. Smooth the top with a spatula and let it cool to room temperature. Once set, refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Serve and Enjoy: Cut the Natilla into squares or slices and serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon or shredded coconut on top.
