August 9, 2024The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a new alert regarding the recall of three types of baked goods found to contain small pieces of plastic, posing a potential health risk to consumers. These products were distributed in stores across seven states: Arizona, Illinois, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, and Texas.
In a recent update, the FDA has classified these products as a Class II risk, indicating that their use or exposure could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects, although the likelihood of serious consequences is low.

The presence of plastic pieces in food could cause traumatic injuries such as lacerations and perforations of the mouth, throat, and digestive system, as well as damage to teeth and gums. While the FDA notes that plastic fragments smaller than 7 mm are less likely to cause serious harm, it advises consumers who have purchased these products to check the lot numbers and UPCs, and return them to the point of purchase for a refund or replacement.
The FDA continues to monitor the situation and is working closely with manufacturers to ensure food safety. If you have any of these products at home, it is important to take action immediately to avoid any potential health risks.
